12 Unique Baked Goods Across The US
By ISABELLA COOK
Blue corn bizcochitos
Blue corn bizcochitos are one of the most unique regional baked goods in America, combining two of New Mexico's most iconic foods. Golden Crown Panaderia takes bizcochito butter cookies with sugar, cinnamon, and anise and combines them with sweet and rich blue corn to make a stunning treat.
Buckeye brownie
The buckeye is an Ohio classic made with decadent peanut butter fudge and chocolate, and a buckeye brownie bakes these peanut butter chocolate candies right into a brownie. The dessert is like a Reese's Peanut Butter Cup merged with a chocolate gâteau, studded with peanut butter fudge throughout.
Cranberry cream puffs
Cream puffs are surprisingly and hugely popular in Wisconsin, and cranberry cream puffs combine the state's famous dairy output with its cranberry crop that's the largest in the country. This combo of flaky pastry, a rich cream filling, and tangy cranberries can be found at Warren's Cranberry Festival.
Chocolate sourdough
California's sourdough bread is famous, but you may not know that it comes in a dark chocolate version. Available from Backhaus in San Mateo, this dessert balances fermented tanginess with the complex bittersweetness of high-quality chocolate, and makes an amazing dessert sandwich.
Ice cream potato
A baked potato isn't technically a baked good, but this Idaho speciality is too unique to not mention. This is simply a baked potato topped with ice cream, made famous at Idaho's Westside Drive-in, and it's not so odd when you remember that dairy products are de facto toppings for potatoes.
