Grab a Slice at Santarpio's Pizza

Santarpio's Pizza
111 Chelsea St.
East Boston, MA

New York has Di Fara; Boston has Santarpio's. Tucked away in East Boston (or "Eastie," as the locals say), this pizza joint has been family owned and operated since its opening in 1903. (It also appears as though they haven't renovated since 1903, which makes the experience all the better.) Crisp, thin crust; sweet sauce; gooey cheese—it's perfection. Try non-pizza things, too, like homemade sausage served with hot cherry peppers and a hunk of fresh Italian bread. It's all brought out by initially boorish waiters, who, as the meal progresses, become your best friends. Dining at Santarpio's is an apt metaphor for the spirit of the city it calls home.
