2012 Mauritson Dry Creek Valley Zinfandel, $30

"Clay Mauritson's family moved to Sonoma County way back in 1868, making them part of a movement of a small handful of pioneers who were trying to sort out what to do after the fizzle of the gold rush. The family has grown grapes there ever since, but young Clay was the one who actually started the winery. Classic-style Dry Creek Zinfandel, like this, is kind of a national treasure. It is one of the deepest parts of our wine history and it's way cool that Clay is keeping it alive."
