2011 Cristom Sommers Reserve Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, $38

"Cristom might be making the most serious, age-worthy Pinot Noir outside of Burgundy's Cote d'Or region, and if you're ever lucky enough to have older examples of its single-vineyard wines, lunge at the chance. The Sommers Reserve is a blend of the various estate sites and, although the vintage didn't make the power-minded critics all that happy, we sommeliers have been noticing that 2011 made elegant wines with open-knit aromatics of red flowers and cherry."
