Warm weather doesn't make your daily caffeine needs any less urgent. Just put them on ice with some of the best iced coffees. Artisanal roasters are a dime a dozen in this town, and they all cool down nicely.
Presenting our seven favorite brews, in no particular order.
① Blue Bottle Coffee in SoMa
High-quality cold brew coffee plus herbaceous chicory equals the best thing to happen to iced coffee maybe ever. Blue Bottle finishes its New Orleans Iced Coffee ($3.50) with organic whole milk and cane sugar. It's caused such a stir that Blue Bottle sells a packaged version around town.
② Philz Coffee in the Mission
Step aside, chocolate. Philz Mint Mojito Iced Coffee ($4) pairs mint and coffee seamlessly, along with heavy cream and turbinado sugar.
③ Cafe Sophie in Castro
What's better than refreshing cold brew coffee ($3)? More of it. Cafe Sophie cools its brew with coffee ice cubes--so you're getting a continuous refill.
④ Curbside Coffee in SoMa
Its Vietnamese Iced Coffee ($3.50) formula is down to a science--fresh ground coffee is perfectly balanced with sweet, condensed milk. And it's got a serious caffeine kick, too.
⑤ farm:table in Tenderloin
Lacing iced coffee ($4) with a smooth, rich, house-made almond milk and a touch of sugar means just the right amount of decadence.
⑥ Mission Bubbles and Coffee in SoMa
Who knew that one of the city's best iced coffees was tucked away in a laundromat/cafe? You'll only need to try the Chocolate Cardamom Iced Coffee ($3)--made with Santa Cruz-roasted Verve Coffee--once to need an excuse to come back.
⑦ Sightglass Coffee in SoMa
Sometimes the best iced coffee simply comes from having the best beans. Sightglass's cold-brewed iced drinks ($3 to $4.50) are no-frills, and allow their stellar bean blends to shine.
