Watch Ina Garten Cook At The White House

'Barefoot in Washington' might be the best thing to come out of D.C. this year

The beginning of November is a buzzworthy time at the White House. Sure, America is electing the next president of the United States, but we're also getting the magical Ina Garten television special that is Barefoot in Washington.

The one-hour special, airing on Food Network on November 5 at 1 p.m., follows everyone's favorite TV star and cookbook author as she visits Washington, D.C. While she makes a few stops at D.C. restaurants like Chaia and Barmini, the journey culminates in a legendary trip to the White House.

According to Food Network, Garten's visit includes a cooking session with White House executive chef Cristeta Comerford, where the two make vegetable tarts and salad wraps with Greek yogurt feta dip. Before heading home, Garten joins First Lady Michelle Obama for tea.

For Garten, the trip is special in more ways than one, since Washington is where she began her career years ago.

"Talk about going back," Garten tells us, referring to her time working on nuclear energy policy in D.C. "It's a dream come true."

In addition to the special, new episodes of Garten's classic show, Barefoot Contessa, will soon air on Food Network, and her latest cookbook, Cooking for Jeffrey, will hit shelves October 25.
