Mary Berry Quitting 'The Great British Bake Off'

Judge Berry joins hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc in their decision to step down

In a move that's more tragic than a dry soufflé or a soggy biscuit, judge Mary Berry has joined hosts Sue Perkins and Mel Giedroyc in stepping down from the brilliantly weird and hilariously wonderful Great British Bake Off.

The decision follows an earlier announcement that the breakout baking hit will be moving off of its home network, BBC, and onto Britain's Channel 4 in 2017. The two hosts and judge, along with judge Paul Hollywood, have been with the program since it began in 2010 but are unhappy with the producers' decision to leave BBC.

In a joint statement, the New York Times reports, Giedroyc and Perkins said, "We were very shocked and saddened to learn yesterday evening that Bake Off will be moving from its home. We're not going with the dough."

The show's producers, Love Productions, responded, "We would like to thank Mel and Sue for bringing their own unique humour to the tent over the past years and we respect their decision not to be part of the Bake Off team on Channel 4," BBC reports.

While Perkins and Giedroyc will not return after this season, judges Berry and Hollywood have not yet reported whether they will remain with the show after the move.

British viewers will still be able to watch their favorite reality show without cost on Channel 4, but they will have to sit through commercials—something that BBC avoids as a publicly funded network. Understandably, fans are skeptical about the future of the program and sad to see their beloved hosts go. See their reactions below.
