Kingston Hall Bar Teleports Visitors To Jamaica | East Village, NYC

Sometimes life is better when it includes a straw, a strong drink and a coconut.

And Nic Ratner and Robert Morgan, owners of the new Kingston Hall, agree wholeheartedly.

To that end, the owners of Shoolbred's and Ninth Ward have brought all they love about Jamaica to the mean streets of the East Village.

Kingston Hall is removed from the hullabaloo of Second Avenue by dint of a second-floor space. Kitted out with a glass-enclosed solarium, burnished wood, a wood-burning fireplace and an antique leather-pocketed pool table, it's as if a Jamaican mansion was uprooted and steeped to precisely the right level of graceful Old World decrepitude.

The Drunken Coconut ($13) is easy-drinking at its finest with Appleton Gold Rum, Malibu, fresh coconut water and pineapple juice, served in the drink's namesake shell.

Gosling's Black Seal dark rum meets its love match with Crabbie's Alcoholic Ginger Beer in the Annie Palmer's Dark & Stormy ($12). And the island favorite Ting grapefruit soda is spiked with rum in the breezy Stingray ($12).

An equally Jamaica-fied food menu is imminent, but in the meantime, neighbors like Nicoletta deliver.

Bar delivery? Now that's a familiar take on island living.
