Aldi's Rosé Wine Named One Of World's Best

It beat out bottles costing three times as much

If you need even more proof that budget-minded grocery stores can replace your Whole Foods addiction, just look to Aldi, whose $8 bottle of rosé, the Exquisite Collection's Côtes de Provence, earned itself a silver medal at the Oscars of the wine world.

The International Wine Challenge, the industry's most prestigious competition, had judges blind-taste almost 13,000 bottles of wine, regardless of their price points. According to The Sun, Aldi's millennial pink varietal nabbed one of the second-place spots for its intricate mix of "strawberry, white fruit and subtle spice," beating out a whole slew of pricier bottles.

That's not the only podium spot the budget grocery retailer got to stand upon: Fourteen other Aldi wines also medaled in the competition. No surprise, seeing as how they partnered with famed French winemaker Jean Claude Mas to produce these award-winning vintages.

"We have been working closely with renowned winemaker Jean Claude Mas to change perceptions around French wine, which is often perceived as expensive and intimidating, so it is fantastic to see some of these products acknowledged as some of the best in the world," Tony Baines, joint managing director of corporate buying, told The Sun.

Unfortunately, this world-class rosé hasn't quite made it over to Aldi's U.S. locations . . . yet.
