Bundaberg Lemon Lime & Bitters Now Available In The US
Australia's favorite links drink arrives
We'd like to thank the sport of golf for providing reliable summer refreshment.
First there was the Arnold Palmer, that satisfying mix of iced tea and lemonade. Now Australia's Bundaberg Lemon Lime & Bitters ($2 for a 12-ounce bottle), modeled after a drink common on the links Down Under, has landed in the U.S.
The traditional antipodean clubhouse drink blends lemon-lime soda with lime cordial and cocktail bitters.
Bundaberg, known for its distinctive brown bottles of brewed ginger beer, one-ups the standard beverage by combining real lemon and lime juices with local cane sugar and the company's brewed bitters.
The lightly sweet and fizzy mix is lively with citrus, accented with fragrant spices, and plenty heat-quenching by its lonesome. It's even better when consumed the way they do it in the West Indies, the home of Angostura Bitters: with rum, of course.
Like all great mixers, Bundaberg Lemon Lime & Bitters coaxes flavors from the rum rather than hiding them. When we used an aged, molasses-based rum, the aromas of coconut and lime had the cocktail tasting completely tropical.
