A French-inspired spot for crêpes and cider

In these early days of the New Year, there are two things on our minds: seeking redemption for the gastronomic sins of December, and our next vacation.

A visit to Galette 88 can help both.

The crêperie, opened by Erin Rooney (Slow Club, Serpentine) and Céline Guillon (Yield wine bar), is a clean, spare space evoking the European cafés of fantasy, hidden in a FiDi alley.

On the menu are Breton-style crêpes, as close to what you'd find in France as you're likely to discover on these shores. Made with buckwheat flour, the crisp-edged crêpes have a pleasantly musty flavor.

Topped with meat and cheese, they may not be diet food, but take heart–buckwheat has four times the fiber of whole wheat.

There are 10 savory crêpes on offer, from the Classic ($8), with Emmentaler cheese, ham and soft-cooked egg, to nouveau creations like the Bleu Velvet ($9), with blue cheese, apples, arugula, honey and toasted almonds. There are also sweet crêpes made with white flour, but skip the Nutella in favor of apples and salted caramel ($6).

To drink: Mason jars of Clos Normand hard cider with the savory ($6), and cups of Four Barrel coffee ($2) with the sweet.
