Union Square Cafe Delays Reopening

The restaurant's reopening is delayed, but there will be pop-ups

New Yorkers have been without one of the city's great restaurants for just shy of 10 months—and they'll have to wait a little longer for its return. Union Square Cafe served its last dinner on 16th Street on December 15 of last year. Though the restaurant was originally slated to reopen on 19th Street this month, November is looking more likely, Eater reports.

In the meantime, fans who are longing for a taste of Union Square's fall menu can pop over to Untitled on October 21 for a party celebrating the restaurant's 31st anniversary. Carmen Quagliata, who helms the Union Square Cafe kitchen when it's open and Michael Anthony of Untitled will collaborate on the menu. A week later, North End Grill will host Quagliata for an October 27 dinner that's part of the Fire + Wine series, which will include tortellini in brodo and, of course, lots of wine.

When Union Square Cafe does finally reopen, the restaurant, which is being designed by David Rockwell, will be a touch different with lots more space in the dining room and a spin-off project called Daily Provisions, which will serve as a café of sorts during the day and later on transform into a 29-seat dining room where Quagliata will serve a tasting menu.

Hopefully, Union Square Cafe will come back to us all by the holiday season.
