Pumpkin Spice Cheerios Are Coming To A Store Near You

Cheerios are the latest snack to jump on the pumpkin spice bandwagon

Labor Day is a multifaceted holiday: It's the time to say goodbye to Summer Fridays, lock up your white pants and—most importantly—usher in the season of pumpkin spice.

Though we're only creeping up on May, Cheerios just announced that come fall, you'll be able to find a pumpkin spice cereal variety on supermarket shelves. It's no secret that nothing is safe from getting the pumpkin spice treatment, and Cheerios will soon join an orange-tinted cereal squad that rolls deep. Last year, health-oriented brand Barbara's released a pumpkin version (intentional lack of the "spice" modifier) of its beloved Puffins cereal. Kellogg's Mini-Wheats also get a seasonal pumpkin spice makeover, and Trader Joe's sells a popular pumpkin granola.

According to Bloomberg, the limited-time release will be part of an effort to help boost declining sales of Cheerios, a cereal that's been around for 75 years. But despite an apparent "U.S. cereal slump," Cheerios, and General Mills overall, have done their part in keeping up with the trends. Though always made from oats, they recently transitioned to officially gluten free. Other cereals have removed all artificial coloring, like the now-muted (but still-kid-approved) Trix.

Here's hoping the flavor seeps out to create pumpkin-flavored cereal milk—just add espresso, and you'll have a PSL in a bowl.
