If you've been kicking yourself over the past few years for not taking the opportunity to have dinner on Mount Everest, here's your second chance. Sanjay Thakur, an Indian chef who's competed in the Bocuse d'Or, is hosting a pop-up at Everest Base Camp that he's calling Triyagyoni.
"The biggest challenge of course will be the altitude, which will affect everything," Thakur tells Fine Dining Lovers. Due to the high altitude, guests' perception of flavor will be decreased, which means Thakur had to design a "menu of extraordinary dishes accordingly, where spices will have the upper hand."
The meal will start off with an eight-day trek from Lukla, Nepal, where 10 diners will help Thakur forage for the ingredients that will be used for the seven-course dinner taking place at 17,600 feet. (Diners will also have the option of just taking a helicopter straight to the pop-up.) According to Thakur, Triyagyoni is also designed to leave no trace of human activity on the mountain, as a reflection of its goal to raise sustainability issues.
The price for the dinner is $5,600, which according to Fine Dining Lovers will include the cost of flights, accommodations and the meal itself; all of the proceeds raised will go to local charities. Those interested in joining Thakur for dinner at the top of the world can email Triyagyoni here.
