6 Julia Child Quotes to Live (and Cook) By
Show us a person who isn’t enamored with Julia Child, and we’ll show you a liar. With warmth, humour and endless inspiration, the beloved cookbook author and TV personality, who passed away in 2004, touched our lives and left us with invaluable lessons. She proved that French cuisine could be approachable and delicious, and helped us all be bold and fearless and fun in the kitchen. This August 15, the culinary queen would have turned 104—and we know she would have celebrated by throwing the greatest party ever.
In honor of her birthday, we’re looking back at some of the best pieces of wisdom she ever imparted. These brilliant quotes are words we should all live by, especially when we step into the kitchen.
After all, "People who love to eat are always the best people."
① "I enjoy cooking with wine. Sometimes, I even put it in the food . . ."
Make Julia proud and cook your pasta in red wine for this indulgent Zinfandel Spaghetti.
② "A party without cake is really just a meeting.”
Don’t ever suffer through another meeting that should have been an email. Bring the party with this gooey, indulgent chocolate cake.
③ “If you’re afraid of butter, use cream."
Better yet, utilize both in this creamy, cheesy chicken fettuccine Alfredo.
④ "The only time to eat diet food is while you’re waiting for the steak to cook."
We couldn’t agree more, Julia. And we have a recipe for the perfect steak worth waiting for.
⑤ “Always remember: If you're alone in the kitchen and you drop the lamb, you can always just pick it up. Who's going to know?”
Another reminder that Julia is the mentor we all need, and we know she’d be proud of this slow-cooked lamb.
⑥ “The best way to execute French cooking is to get good and loaded and whack the hell out of a chicken. Bon appétit.”
Heck, if you’re gonna whack it, why not go all the way and spatchcock that bird?
