Spring Preview: Restaurants: Detroit

The new restaurants to try this season

It's going to be a delicious season. Check out the rest of our Spring Preview here.

A world-famous fried chicken spot comes to Motor City this spring. Here's where else you'll be licking your fingers.

Grey Ghost: You might have heard about the Ghost Tour pop-ups that have been going on. They're a sort of test ground for the meat-centric restaurant from chefs John Vermiglio and Josef Giacomino. The restaurant's named for a rum-running pirate, so you can be sure the booze offerings (run by Will Lee) will be strong.

Gus's World Famous Fried Chicken: Local chef and restaurateur Zack Sklar is helping bring old-school Memphis favorite Gus's to Detroit. Sklar opened another location of the chain in Chicago last fall, so everything should run smoothly when the team opens in early summer.

Katoi: After a stint as a food truck and even as a pop-up called Katoi in Exile (in Ann Arbor), Brad Greenhill and Philip Kafka are finally close to opening their brick-and-mortar restaurant, which will serve Thai-inspired fare made with local ingredients, including lots of vegetarian dishes.

The Peterboro: The team behind Wright & Co., The Sugar House, Honest John's, and Café 78 at MOCAD are just about ready to start serving at this Chinese American restaurant. While there are kitschy paper lanterns and plans for 90s take-out staples like Chinese roast pork and boneless almond chicken, the dishes here will have a modern feel to them.
