The origins of this cocktail are blurry, but it has one major claim to fame: It is the cocktail that begat the Martini.


Adapted from Misty Kalkofen, Brick & Mortar, Boston

Yield: 1 cocktail

Cook Time: 5 minutes


  • Ice
  • 1¾ ounces Ransom Old Tom Gin
  • 1 ounce Cinzano Rosso
  • ¼ ounce Luxardo Maraschino Liqueur
  • 2 dashes Bitter Truth Jerry Thomas' Own Decanter Bitters
  • Lemon wheel


In a mixing glass or cocktail shaker, add the ice, gin, Cinzano Rosso, maraschino liqueur and bitters. Stir, then strain into a chilled coupe. Float the lemon wheel on top.
