Skip Lunch Fight Hunger Campaign In New York City And City Harvest | Tasting Table NYC

Put your lunch money towards an essential cause

Before you complain (again) about price gouging at your favorite pay-by-the-pound salad bar, do us a favor: Skip it. Pack your own lunch–or don't eat one at all–and use your money to help feed the thousands of hungry New Yorkers through the Skip Lunch Fight Hunger campaign.

This annual one-day fundraiser–held this year on Wednesday, May 6–raises money for City Harvest, the food-rescue organization that assists the 350,000 local children (and their families) who otherwise don't get enough to eat.

Participating is a breeze: Gather a team of coworkers or friends, then register your group at skiplunch.org. City Harvest will send you a kit containing paper lunch bags to distribute on May 6. Team members will fill the bags with donations: Just $10 can help feed seven children for a week. Feeling generous? $50 can help feed three children for the entire summer. Can't organize a team in time? Make an individual donation online.

Last year, more than 15,000 New Yorkers raised over $500,000 in the time it takes us to make a Chipotle run. This year–with more families in need than ever–the target is $600,000. We challenge you, Tasting Table readers, to raise the bar even higher.
