ckbk Is the Spotify-like Service for Discovering New Cookbooks

The Kickstarter project even lets you create a playlist of your favorite recipes

While we all have our butter-stained, dog-eared copy of Julia Child's masterpiece on French cooking and Dorie Greenspan's baking bible, sometimes we need help finding a new book to add to our libraries.

That's where ckbk, a digital subscription service billed as the "Spotify of cookbooks" will come in. Once it launches later this year, ckbk's database (which for now consists of a healthy selection of more than 500 titles) will be completely searchable and encompass both newer works and classic volumes that have been completely digitized.

Each book was specially handpicked by founders Matthew Cockerill and Nadia Arumugam, who tell Stained Page News that they used recommendations from countless chefs and writers like Daniel Boulud and Nigella Lawson as their jumping-off point. The end result is a directory of more than 100,000 recipes, penned by authors ranging from Paula Wolfert to the duo behind Thug Kitchen. Reference volumes, like The Oxford Companion to Food, will also be included. 

And just like Spotify, you can save recipes to specific "playlists" that you can share with friends and family, filter recipes by your favorite genre, and browse lists of top-rated suggestions to ensure you'll always have a new volume to cook from. Memberships will come in both basic free and premium "all-you-can-eat" options.
