City Guide

The words wine country will make any Bay Area local go a little misty. Located less than an hour north of San Francisco, the combination of Napa and Sonoma Counties is one of those magical mash-ups of farmland, top restaurants and wine galore. Sonoma is more rustic, while Napa is more glamorous, but you'll find some of both in the two regions. And thanks to Northern California's mellow climes, wine country is a year-round destination, but it's hard to beat autumn when harvest season is in full swing, and many wineries and restaurants celebrate the crush. — Lauren Sloss, Contributor

"El Barrio in Guerneville is my go-to spot for a drink. It's a beautifully designed space that was put together by the owner, and the feel of the place so relaxed. It's the ideal day-drinking spot in Sonoma County."
