Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 6 large apples, any baking variety, cored, peeled, and cut into ¼-inch slices
  • ½ cup granulated sugar
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • 8 tablespoons butter
  • ½ teaspoon cinnamon
  • 1 cup flour
  • ½ cup brown sugar, packed
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ⅓ cup whole rolled oats
  • ¼ cup walnuts, chopped
Directions
  1. Preheat the oven to 375 F.
  2. Melt 2 tablespoons butter in a medium Dutch oven or saucepan over medium-low heat.
  3. Add the apples, granulated sugar, and 1 teaspoon cinnamon and stir to coat the apples.
  4. Cook for 4 to 5 minutes, until slightly softened.
  5. Transfer the apples to a 2-quart baking dish or pie plate.
  6. Make the crisp topping by stirring together the flour, brown sugar, oats, walnuts, remaining ½ teaspoon cinnamon, and salt in a small mixing bowl.
  7. Melt the remaining 8 tablespoons butter, and pour it over the dry ingredients, stirring to combine.
  8. Pour the crisp topping over the apple layer and spread it out to evenly cover the apples.
  9. Bake the apple crisp in the preheated oven for 40 minutes, until the topping is golden brown and crisp.
