Equal parts salt, sugar and cayenne pepper, mixed well, for rimming the glass

Two 2-inch square chunks of fresh watermelon
1⁄2 ounce cane syrup (such as Depaz brand) or simple syrup
3⁄4 ounce fresh lime juice
1⁄2 ounce mezcal, preferably Del Maguey San Luis 11⁄2 ounces silver tequila, preferably Herradura
Directions
Wet the rim of a cocktail glass and coat with the salt mixture. Fill a cocktail shaker with ice and add the remaining ingredients. Shake well and strain into the prepared glass.
