- 12 street-sized flour tortillas
- 2 cups vegetable oil
- ½ cup powdered sugar
- Cut the tortillas into quarters.
- Heat a 1-inch layer of oil in a heavy skillet over medium heat.
- Place 4 to 6 tortilla pieces at a time into the hot oil and fry until puffy and golden.
- Flip the tortilla pieces and fry on the other side until golden.
- Remove the sopapillas from the hot oil and let them drain on a paper towel-lined plate.
- Sprinkle the sopapillas with powdered sugar before serving.
