Fresh Mango Guacamole Recipe

If you need a fancy new guac to serve with your usual spread on Taco Tuesday, then we have just the perfect recipe for you. This mango guacamole is like something you would order at a restaurant, and it's incredibly refreshing and flavorful. The great part about this recipe is that it's super simple and you don't need to be a master chef to whip it up. The fresh mango adds a great, sweet taste that complements the smoothness and simple taste of the avocado, and the added flavors of cumin and lime make it the perfect dip.

Wellness coach and recipe developer Miriam Hahn came up with this incredible recipe that is sure to be a new staple in your guac rotation. "I love guacamole so much, and this recipe is a fun twist. The sweetness of the mango balances out the hot jalapeño and you [have] that 'sweet and spicy' thing going on. It is delicious," Hahn raves.

Gather the ingredients

The first thing you will need to do is make a grocery list and head to the store. Double check to see if you have some of the ingredients at home. For starters, you will need a few large avocados and a cup of diced mango. While you're in the produce section, grab a red onion, jalapeño, lime, and cilantro. The great part about this recipe is that it uses a ton of fresh ingredients.

The only other aisle that you need to hit up is the spice one. While you're there, get cumin and coarse salt. Then, you have everything necessary to begin.

Benefits of mango and avocado

It's no secret that mango and avocado are both really good for you and you should feel good about what you're putting into your body. Hahn explains why we should be eating more mango and avocado the best. "Mango is really high in vitamins A, C, and K (K helps our calcium absorption). [It's] also high in fiber and super hydrating. Avocado is one of the most alkalizing fruits out there and has lots of healthy fats for our skin and brain," Hahn tells us. "Guacamole is really such a healthy dip. Most dips really have very little health benefit, and there is nothing at all wrong with guacamole!"

Cut the avocados

The first thing you will need to do is to grab a cutting board and sharp knife. Cut the avocados in half and then remove the pits. On the cutting board, slice the avocado long ways into the flesh and then cut it crosswise to make little cubes. Then, scoop out the diced avocado pieces into a large bowl. Be sure to repeat this process with all of the avocados, adding the chopped pieces to the same bowl. Then, mash the avocado with a fork until it's broken down but still slightly chunky as normal guacamole would be.

Slice the mango

Now that you have taken care of your avocado, it's time to move on to the mango. Hold the fruit on the cutting board with the thinner side up. Slice it on either side of the large pit. Then, with the mango halves on a cutting board, cut into the flesh lengthwise and crosswise just like you did for the avocado. Scoop the mango out into the same bowl as the avocado.

"A note on the mango. You can buy it cut up already if you don't like cutting mango," Hahn shares. "The large pit can be really cumbersome to cut around. If you buy it cut up, looks for a batch that is dark orange. The light pieces will not be very juicy. Sometimes I find that they are not ripe enough. But buying it this way is a timesaver."

At this point, you'll also want to dice the onion, mince the jalapeño, and chop the cilantro.

Add the remaining ingredients

Now, it's time to add everything else to the mix. Dump in the diced red onion and minced jalapeño first. Then, add the lime juice, chopped cilantro, cumin, and salt. Mix everything together well, and then serve! "I love this with the usual chips, but it is also great as a burrito topper, with fajitas, on chili, or even a sweet potato, one of my favorite uses!" Hahn raves.

As for leftovers? "Because of the lime, the guac won't turn super brown, but it will darken a tad. Best to use up within 24 hours. We never seem to have any leftover ever!" We hope you enjoy this fresh twist on guac!
