French Onion Soup Mac And Cheese Recipe

Ingredients
  • 2 tablespoons butter
  • 2 large yellow onions, sliced
  • 2 large sweet onions, sliced
  • ½ cup dry white wine
  • 2 cups beef broth
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 3 tablespoons butter
  • 3 tablespoons flour
  • 1½ cups whole milk
  • 4 ounces Gruyère, grated
  • 4 ounces Emmental, grated
  • Salt and pepper to taste
  • 1 (16-ounce) package elbow macaroni
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 3 tablespoons grated Parmesan
  • 2 tablespoons melted butter
Directions
  1. Set the oven to 375 F.
  2. Grease a 9x13-inch baking dish.
  3. Melt the butter in a large pan over medium-low heat.
  4. Add the onions and cook 40 minutes, stirring occasionally, until deep golden.
  5. Deglaze the pan with the white wine, scraping up the browned bits.
  6. Add the beef broth and simmer for 15 minutes. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. For the béchamel, melt the butter in a saucepan.
  8. Whisk in the flour and cook for 1 minute. Gradually whisk in the milk.
  9. Stir in the Gruyère and Emmental until melted.
  10. Season with salt and pepper.
  11. Cook the macaroni to al dente.
  12. Combine the caramelized onions, béchamel, and cooked macaroni.
  13. Transfer to a greased baking dish.
  14. Mix the breadcrumbs, Parmesan, and melted butter, and sprinkle the mixture over the top of the mac and cheese.
  15. Bake at 375 F for 20-25 minutes until golden and bubbly.
  16. Optionally, sprinkle the mac and cheese with diced parsley and drizzle with more cream, and serve.
