Slow Cooker Orange Chicken Recipe

Ingredients
  • 1 ½ pounds boneless skinless chicken thighs, cut into 1–2 inch pieces
  • ½ cup chicken broth
  • 1 cup orange juice
  • 1 tablespoon orange zest
  • ⅓ cup soy sauce
  • ⅓ cup honey
  • 2 tablespoons rice vinegar
  • 3 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 tablespoon grated fresh ginger
  • ¼ teaspoon red pepper flakes
  • 3 tablespoons cornstarch
  • 2 tablespoons water (for thickening), optional
  • Sesame seeds, for serving
  • Sliced green onions, for serving
Directions
  1. Place the chicken in the slow cooker.
  2. Whisk together the chicken broth, orange juice, zest, soy sauce, honey, vinegar, garlic, ginger, and red pepper flakes.
  3. Pour the sauce over the chicken.
  4. Cook on low for 3–4 hours.
  5. Remove ½ cup of the cooking liquid and whisk it with cornstarch. Add water if needed, starting with 1 tablespoon.
  6. Stir the cornstarch slurry back into the slow cooker and cook on high for 10–15 minutes until the sauce thickens.
  7. Garnish with sesame seeds and green onions. Serve over rice, if desired.
