California Pizza Kitchen & Mike's Hot Honey Team Up For New Frozen Pizzas

California Pizza Kitchen, the crown jewel of the suburban mall dining world, is taking all the things people can't get enough of and combining them into what is bound to be an instant classic. Known for their outlandish fusion concepts that include Chicken Tequila Fettuccine and avocado on pizza, it's no surprise that CPK is launching new frozen pizzas inspired by croissants and hot honey.

The new pizzas are part of a collab with Mike's Hot Honey, the cult favorite chili-infused topping that has surpassed household name status and now lives comfortably in the ubiquity that comes with having its own Trader Joe's knockoff. This sweet and spicy condiment can do it all, working just as well as a topping for warm cornbread as it does for cold vanilla ice cream or smoky bacon. Similar to chili crisp, this condiment goes with everything and is always the life of the party.

But one of the undisputed best uses for Mike's Hot Honey is as a topping for pepperoni pizza, with the sweetness and heat cutting the fatty, salty cheese and cured meat. Renowned pizza shops like Paulie Gee's in Brooklyn have been using this hack for ages in their famous Hellboy slice with hot soppressata and Mike's Hot Honey.

But it's not just about the hot honey. Let's not skip over the croissant of it all.

Get ready for croissant-inspired crusts

California Pizza Kitchen's new pizza crust is inspired by flaky, light croissants. Now, croissant-fusion items have really been having a moment over the last few years, starting with Dominique Ansel's cronut (which is about to celebrate its tenth anniversary), and including items as far-fetched as the viral cube croissant, the cragel, and even the tacro (yes, that last one is a croissant taco).

But a croissant pizza crust claiming to be (according to a new press release from California Pizza Kitchen) "airy on the inside and golden-brown on the outside"? We must be reaching the limits of what the croissant is capable of.

CPK will be launching two different types of frozen pizzas with a croissant crust. The first is a classic Uncured Pepperoni & Hot Honey, topped with marinara sauce and mozzarella cheese. Mike's Hot Honey will come packaged separately from both pies, so it can be added according to your personal preference, and despite its pizza-infused history, this will be the company's first frozen pizza collaboration. The second croissant crust is a Bacon & Caramelized Onion topped with roasted garlic, mozzarella cheese, bacon, caramelized onion, and a brie cheese sauce.

Starting in April, the Croissant Inspired Crust Pizza can be found at retailers like Target in the frozen food aisle. Here's hoping it lives up to the flaky, tongue-tingling hype.
