The Crucial Tip To Prevent Extra Soggy Wet Burritos

Burritos are one of those foods that you can have a craving for any time of day. It doesn't matter if it is 7 a.m. or 2 a.m, if you want it for breakfast or as a pre-dinner meal, the burrito is a great meal. What makes the burrito so enchanting? Delighted Cooking says that it's because it is the perfect combination of everything: rice, beans, salsa, avocado, sour cream, cheese, and meats including beef, chicken, or pork all wrapped up in a large flour tortilla.

It is heavily inspired by Mexican food and indeed has a lot of the ingredients traditionally used in classic Mexican cuisine, but the use of flour tortillas and yellow instead of white cheese often makes the burrito considered more akin to Tex-Mex cuisine which is also famous for the fajitas and nachos. The burrito has dozens of variations at this point, the breakfast burrito, the chimichanga, and the Korean beef bulgogi burrito, but one particular burrito calls back to the authentic Mexican enchilada: The wet burrito.

Pre-toast

A wet burrito or the "burrito mojado" is made much like other burrito varieties, however, once they are rolled they are then coated in enchilada sauce and are eaten with utensils and not by hand. Tastes Better from Scratch says that the wet burrito can be served with red or green enchilada sauce and is often topped with a side of sour cream and guacamole as well.

The problem that everyone making a wet burrito has is that burritos (unlike enchiladas) are made with flour tortillas, not corn, and flour tortillas are much more delicate and fall apart under the liquid enchilada sauce far too quickly. According to MasterClass, the best way to prevent a soggy wet burrito is to toast the burrito. Now, normally, a burrito has all its ingredients cooked before being wrapped, so it isn't cooked as a whole, however, a wet burrito needs extra protection from the sauce, so the burrito is toasted on an oiled pan to toughen up the tortilla.

This will not only keep the bread from taking on a satisfying texture but also keep the stuffing from falling out.
