The Mashup Ben & Jerry's Flavor Named For The Barenaked Ladies

Any lover of premium ice creams probably has their freezer stocked with a couple of pints of Ben & Jerry's right now. The Burlington, Vermont-founded brand has been going strong since 1978, supplying dessert lovers with a range of mix-in-packed flavors such as Half Baked, featuring cookie dough and chunks of brownies, and Strawberry Cheesecake, loaded with graham crackers, bits of strawberries, and a swirl of strawberry jam. With these high-quality offerings, it comes as no surprise that Ben & Jerry's is consistently the top-selling ice cream brand in the United States (via Statista).

Of all the flavors that have come and gone over the brand's 40+ years in existence, one of its most enduring flavors that are still a hit with shoppers year after year is Cherry Garcia. First packed into pints back in 1987, according to the brand's official website, the smooth cherry ice cream features chunks of cherries as well as thin, crispy flakes of dark chocolate, and it's frankly one of B&J's best flavors. Inspired, of course, by Grateful Dead founder and lead guitarist Jerry Garcia, Cherry Garcia is actually one of the brand's many odes to musicians and bands.

Ben & Jerry's has named more than 15 of its ice creams for musicians

You might be familiar with Ben & Jerry's famous ode to the Grateful Dead, its Cherry Garcia ice cream flavor, but have you ever sunk a spoon into Phish Food, the chocolate ice cream studded with little chocolate fish that's named for Vermont jam band Phish (via Three Snackateers)? How about Mint Chocolate Chance, a nod to Chance the Rapper? Or Goodbye Yellow Brickle Road, a peanut butter cookie dough-laced chocolate ice cream that alludes to Elton John's famous hit?

According to Three Snackateers, Ben & Jerry's has named plenty of ice cream flavors for musicians, bands, and music festivals, and one variety you might not yet have come across is If I Had 1,000,000 Flavors, a chocolate and vanilla ice cream duo mixed with fudge-covered toffee, white chocolate chunks, peanut butter cups, and fudge-covered almonds (via Ben & Jerry's). The loaded pint is a collaboration with Canadian rock band Barenaked Ladies, one of whose top hits is called "If I Had $1,000,000" (via Allmusic). Not only is the ice cream a decidedly excellent choice for chocolate lovers, but it also has a cause. A portion of the flavor's proceeds benefits ABC Literacy, a Canadian organization supporting adult literacy. Excuse us while we eat two pints in one sitting — you know, for literacy!
