Ingredients
4 tablespoons canola oil, divided
1 large head of broccoli, cut into florets
1 pound flank steak, cut against the grain into thin strips
¼ cup soy sauce
2 tablespoons brown sugar
2 tablespoons oyster sauce
2 tablespoons mirin
1 ½ tablespoon minced garlic
1 teaspoon freshly grated ginger
½ teaspoon black pepper
1 cup sliced onions
1 ½ tablespoon cornstarch
3 tablespoons water
1 teaspoon sesame oil
Directions
In a large wok or skillet, heat 2 tablespoons of oil over medium-high. Add in the broccoli and sauté for 3-4 minutes, then remove it from the pan.
Turn the burner to high and heat the remaining oil.
Sauté the beef for approximately 5-10 minutes, until cooked through.
Combine the soy sauce, brown sugar, oyster sauce, mirin, garlic, ginger, and black pepper.
Reduce the heat to medium-high and add the sauce to the pan with the beef. Sauté until the beef has absorbed the sauce.
Add the sliced onions to the pan and cook them for 2 to 3 minutes, then return the broccoli to the pan.
Mix the cornstarch and water, stirring until the cornstarch has dissolved. Add the cornstarch to the pan and mix well until the sauce thickens.
Stir in the sesame oil.
Serve the beef and broccoli, optionally with toasted sesame seeds and white rice.
