When Vessel closed in 2010, the Seattle cocktail scene suffered a severe blow. Its barkeep, Jim Romdall, had been the city's patron saint of progressive drinking. But now all is as it should be; the bar has reopened and Romdall is back behind the stick. The cocktails, of course, are better than ever.
Ice
1½ ounces Citadelle gin
¾ ounce Cocchi Americano
¾ ounce fresh lime juice
¼ ounce rich simple syrup (2:1)
1½ ounces fresh cantaloupe juice
Soda
Mint sprig
In a cocktail shaker filled with ice, combine the gin, Cocchi, lime juice and simple syrup. Shake well and strain into a Collins glass filled with ice. Add the cantaloupe juice to the glass and fill to the rim with soda. Gently stir to combine. Garnish with the mint sprig and serve.
