At first glance, you may think Avery Glasser's Boiler-Bach is simply a glass of beer. But this riff on the Seelbach cocktail and Boilermaker technique, in which beer is mixed or chased with booze, melds hoppy, Pennsylvania-made Stoudt's pilsner with Cointreau and a trio of bitters. A shot glass of bourbon is plopped in as a final touch.
7 dashes Angostura Bitters
7 dashes Peychaud's Bitters
7 drops Bittermens Xocolatl Mole Bitters
7 drops Bittermens Orange Cream Citrate
½ ounce Cointreau
One chilled 12-ounce bottle dry, hoppy beer, such as Stoudt's Pilsner
1 ounce bourbon, preferably Elijah Craig
In a pint glass, combine the three bitters, orange cream citrate, Cointreau and beer. Place the bourbon in a shot glass and drop into the pint glass. Serve.
