Benjamin Schiller's Old Money balances whiskey and Aperol with enough walnut liqueur to create a luxurious texture. Because the cocktail contains no sugar or citrus, large batches can be mixed and stashed in bottles--just in case you're ever in immediate need of a serious (or celebratory) drink.
2 ounces rye whiskey or bourbon
½ ounce Aperol
⅜ ounce Nux Alpina walnut liqueur
10 drops Angostura bitters
Ice
3 drops Allspice Dram
1 two-inch strip of orange peel, for garnish
In a cocktail shaker, combine the rye whiskey, Aperol, Nux Alpina and bitters. Add ice to fill. Stir until cold. Strain into a rocks glass filled with cracked ice. Add the Allspice Dram and garnish with the orange peel. Serve.
