Senior Editor

Location: Tasting Table Headquarters in Soho, Manhattan, New York

TastingTable.com has an immediate opening for an experienced senior editor to work out of our New York City office. The senior editor will be primarily responsible for assigning and editing national epicurean content for publication on our web site and in our daily emails. Working alongside our Editorial Director and Executive Editor, this editor will be responsible for shaping and facilitating engaging content across all of our verticals, including dining, wine, cocktails, cooking, entertaining and culinary travel.

The senior editor will develop and then manage a reliable team of freelancers who will keep Tasting Table's readers informed and entertained with useful content about food and drink culture nationwide. This will involve a high volume of top-editing duties and an eagle-eyed attention to detail.

Ultimately, the Senior Editor is responsible for assigning and editing 20 - 30 short-form (max 250 word) articles for TastingTable.com per week.

Please note that this role requires extensive food writing and editing experience at a major regional or national newspaper, magazine or web site.

Responsibilities:

  • Developing and managing an extensive team of freelancers who are able to pitch, write and produce high-quality, useful epicurean content on a daily basis
  • Assessing pitches, assigning stories, and managing all aspects of the editing process from ideation through publication to eventual performance analysis -- creating a virtuous cycle with the best freelancers to extend their relationship with Tasting Table while constantly trying out promising new writers
  • Top-editing all freelance content into a consistent Tasting Table style and sensibility without eliminating individual writers' personality and voice
  • Maintaining a dynamic freelance editorial calendar that complements Tasting Table's overall editorial calendar
  • Participating in editorial team meetings, brainstorms, tastings, etc. as required
  • Managing a network of contacts, publicists, tipsters and industry friends who help to keep you abreast of the coolest, newest happenings in the food and drink space
  • Produce special content packages as required
  • Work closely with other editors on social media, fact checking and reader engagement
  • Evangelizing the Tasting Table brand by telling everyone and anyone who will listen about our publication

 

Qualifications:

  • At least 5 years editorial experience, ideally in a senior editorial position
  • Proven experience editing a high volume of food related content
  • Intelligent, agile writer who can write sharp headlines and copy
  • High taste level and ability to know a great idea when you see it
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Graceful under pressure while multi-tasking
  • Familiarity with editing recipes
  • Mac savvy / generally "digitally minded"

Summer Editorial Intern

Location: Tasting Table Headquarters in Soho, Manhattan, New York

TastingTable.com, the daily email publication devoted to the best of food and drink culture, is seeking an editorial intern in New York City. This paid internship will offer opportunities to experience the entire editorial process. The intern will work closely with his or her editor to provide fact-checking support, as well as assistance with research, editorial administrative duties, and possibly writing and photo production.

This personalized program will be specifically developed with the intern to reflect his or her own interests, with the goal of helping him or her build hands-on experience.

Potential interns should be willing to commit to coming to the Tasting Table office in Soho at least 2 afternoon hours Monday through Friday for a duration of at least three months. This position requires obsessive attention to detail as well as strong research and writing skills.

The intern should have good knowledge of the New York City and national food scenes.

Maturity and motivation are musts: Most of the work will be done independently, thus organization and time management skills are essential. 

Interested candidates do not need to be students in order to apply, but Tasting Table will work with college students on the process of doing the internship for school credit.

Responsibilities:

- Fact-checking

- Research for Dining Dispatch and other editorial content

- Assisting our director of photography with photo shoots

- Assisting the recipe testing process by procuring materials

- Managing Tasting Table's cookbook library

- General administrative editorial responsibilities

Qualifications:

- A passion for food, drink and dining, and good working knowledge of the New York City and national food scenes

- Detail-oriented, with strong research and writing skills
