Senior Food Editor
Tasting Table is hiring a New York City-based senior food editor. This is a full-time job based out of Tasting Table's New York headquarters.
Responsibilities:
- Oversee testing and editing of all recipes that Tasting Table publishes in both its local and national editions.
- Ensure that all published recipes follow Tasting Table’s house recipe style guide.
- Help oversee the managing and producing of Tasting Table's Chefs' Recipes edition, a thrice-weekly email that publishes exclusive recipes from top new restaurants and cookbooks from around the country
- Build and spearhead any new recipe-driven editorial projects
- Where applicable, photographing recipes for editorial presentation.
- Oversee network of freelance recipe testers and developers.
- Oversee recipe-based editorial and advertising projects.
- Representing the publication as a member of the editorial team
- Evangelizing our brand by telling everyone and anyone who will listen about our publication
- Contributing any brainstorming required to support all of the Tasting Table teams/departments in pursuit of creating and maintaining a high-quality digital epicurean brand
Qualifications:
- The ideal candidate will have at least 4 years professional editorial experience testing, developing and editing recipes at another food publication (print or digital).
- Bachelor's degree required. Culinary degree preferred.
- A complete and thorough understanding of Tasting Table's editorial approach, style and tone.
- Wit / humor. Ability to produce a serious work product without taking yourself too seriously.
- Grown-up time-management and organization skills.
- Ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines.
- Obsessive attention to accuracy of facts, details, etc.
- Impervious to writer's block. Doesn't make excuses. Loves this business.

Tasting Table Fall 2011 Intern
TastingTable.com, the daily email magazine devoted to the best of food and drink culture, seeks an energetic intern in the New York City headquarters. This unpaid internship will offer exposure to the fast-paced world of a digital start-up. The intern will have a hand in projects across all departments, including marketing, business development, communications, and editorial, as well as assisting with the day-to-day operations of the company.
Potential interns should be willing to commit at least 3 days per week in our Soho office. This position requires obsessive attention to detail and excellent research and writing skills. Familiarity with Google products and Excel a plus, Mac experience preferred.
Motivation, resourcefulness and enthusiasm are musts: Much of the work is time-sensitive so organization and time management skills are essential to maintain efficiency. Tasting Table will work with college students on the process of completing the internship for school credit.

Responsibilities:

Editor
TastingTable.com, the daily email devoted to the best of food and drink culture, has an opening for an experienced editor in its New York City headquarters. The editor will assist the editor in chief in shaping and facilitating editorial voice and style for all stories and recipes. This will involve top-editing duties and an eagle-eyed attention to detail. The editor will also be responsible for researching and writing stories for the New York and National editions of Tasting Table. If you have a strong interest in the digital publishing industry, a passion for food, a love for the written word and a hunger to succeed in a start-up environment, Tasting Table wants to hear from you.
Responsibilities:
- Top-editing stories from across all of Tasting Table’s local and national editions
- Top-editing recipes, all of which are tested by Tasting Table staff
- Working with Tasting Table’s national editor to help conceive, research and execute stories and features to run in the National edition
- Working alongside the other members of Tasting Table’s editorial team to keep the editorial content accurate, fresh and exciting
- Managing a network of contacts, publicists, freelancers,and tipsters to feed you great content
- Researching and writing stories for the New York edition of Tasting Table
- Managing editorial projects as needed
- Representing the publication as a member of the editorial team

- At least 4 years editorial experience, ideally in a senior editorial position
- Whip-smart writer who knows that good taste is merely the beginnings of good food writing
- Understands the Tasting Table editorial voice and style
- Strong attention to detail, verging on OCD-like tendencies to re-check your work twice before becoming comfortable that the work is right.
- Graceful under pressure
- Deep familiarity with editing in Word and, ideally, also in Pages
- Deep familiarity with editing recipes
- Superb communication skills
- Multi-tasker
- Intense interest in food and drink
- Mac savvy / generally “digitally minded”
- Profoundly incredible Googling capabilities
