TT Leftovers: July Edition
The hottest S.F. summer on record
Hot, cold; hot, cold. What a month. Looking back, the weather may have been fickle but the eats were consistently fine. Here, a guide to the month's best discoveries--and if you missed the finds the first time, be sure to add them to your personal eating-and-drinking list brought to you by Tasting Table To-Dos.
• San Francisco is on fire for the smart eats at the new Mission Chinese Food. Emulate the distinctive heat of Danny Bowien and Anthony Myint's food with our exclusive recipe for one of the duo's snappy spice blends.
• Every yin demands a yang: So cool off with the unique ice creams of Eloise and Dennis Leung at DeLise Café. Cucumber mojito sorbet; cigar and scotch; salted caramel with brownie bits. Chilled out yet?
• Mission Street looks nothing like Brooklyn. But, there, Nabeel Silmi of Grand Coffee assembles a sublime Brooklyn-style egg cream. The layered drink is eminently slurp-worthy and startlingly refreshing.
• Tyler Florence--that most dude-like of celebrity chefs--loves him some tarragon. The delicate herb appears in a variety of dishes at Florence's new restaurant, Wayfare Tavern. One of our favorites is his simple watermelon salad.
• Head to the Anderson Valley in Mendocino County for an easy Alsatian-style getaway. The stunning whites of the region echo those of the eastern French region, and a tour of the Valley's tasting rooms is truly transporting.
