A Liddabit More

Put some local love into your Halloween treats

As Halloween approaches, swap that bag of mini chocolate bars for something a little more palatable (for your body and superego): Liddabit Sweets.

After searching the city for sweets made with local, sustainable ingredients and finding none, Liddabit founders Jen King and Liz Gutman decided to create their own. Using the Greenmarket and CSAs for inspiration, they've launched a line of handmade treats flavored with fall produce.

Their King Bar is a succulent combination of homemade peanut-butter nougat, banana ganache and brown-butter sugar cookie and is finished with a generous dip in milk chocolate. Try it and you'll forget Snickers forever.

Candied apples are a pain to make; instead, grab a bag of Liddabit's chewy Hard Cider Caramels, which have hints of dried apples, local hard apple cider and Calvados.

For friends above the age of seven, pick up a few of the Beer 'n' Pretzel caramels (pictured), made with Brooklyn Brewery's Brown Ale and East India Pale Ale and crunchy, salty Martin's Pretzels.

Bonus: Many of Liddabit's products are vegetarian and vegan-friendly, so you won't have to hesitate when throwing a Maple-Apple lollipop into your trick-or-treater's pillowcase.

Liddabit Sweets are sold at The Greene Grape, Marlow and Daughters, the Fort Greene Brooklyn Flea, and the New Amsterdam Market
