The Artist's Palate

We've seen cookies inspired by everything from politicians to pottery. But fine art? When the edible is as provocative as the visual, why not?

Since 2006, Lior Lev Sercarz has been creating seasonal collections of his La Boîte à Biscuits, each inspired by an emerging artist. The Israeli-born chef (and Daniel alum) combines exotic flavors--sweet and savory--in each of his delicate cookies, then packs them in an attractive tin along with samples of the artist's work.

His latest release, "Perceptual Vortex," includes five different cookies that pair flavors like cocoa and orange blossom, dates and curry, and hibiscus and white chocolate with the bold, light-refracting photos of artist Ghary Bowlin.

You can sample the cookies tonight at the opening of Bowlin's Prisma show (5 p.m. to 9 p.m.) at the Bridge Gallery. The show runs through April 12; the "Perceptual Vortex" collection can be purchased through June 21 by sending an e-mail to lior@laboiteabiscuits.com.
