Crêpe Around
A wholesome brunch idea from The Sprouted Kitchen
The cooking blog The Sprouted Kitchen is obviously a labor of love.
Which is logical, considering that it's run by a husband-and-wife team. She (Sara Forte) makes and waxes poetic about recipes that celebrate whole foods; he (Hugh Forte) shoots the beautiful accompanying photographs. And with the couple’s new cookbook, The Sprouted Kitchen: A Tastier Take on Whole Foods ($25), out today, the circle of love is complete.
Much like the blog, Sara’s wholesome recipes look as appetizing as they sound. They range from hearty breakfasts to salads to mains--and even snacks and happy-hour cocktail ideas (hello, Black Cherry Refresher). And as always, the recipes celebrate freshness, simplicity and bright flavors.
We decided to cook one of the book’s breakfast dishes: Buckwheat Crêpes with Smoked Salmon. It would be ideal for an elegant brunch for friends or a deliciously light solo dinner (see the recipe). Buckwheat gives the crêpes an earthy bent; chopped Granny Smith apples, chives and lemon elevate the rich smoked salmon-and-cottage cheese filling.
Serve the crêpes with a simply dressed green salad. It’s a match made in heaven.
