Last year was one of the warmest winters on record, bumming out skiers everywhere. This year, we’re entering the ski season prepared: If snow doesn’t fall, we’ll commit ourselves to an itinerary of eating and drinking. And if the weather gods cooperate, all the better--après-ski never looked so good.
Jackson Hole, Wyoming: Take a break from the powder with a cocktail at The Rose, which opened last year under the guidance of Death & Co. owners Alex Day and David Kaplan. During happy hour, pitch-perfect Negronis and Daiquiris are just $5. Then head to Michael Mina’s just-opened Handle Bar for bar snacks and whiskey.
Aspen, Colorado: At the new Chefs Club by Food & Wine at the St. Regis Resort, Jim Meehan brings his creations--like the Fresh Powder, with bourbon, rum, sherry and Leopold Bros. fernet--to high altitudes. Dinner at The Little Nell’s new restaurant, Element 47, is a luxe reward for an active day on the slopes, with dishes like local lamb shank with smoked pasta, and sea bass with forbidden black rice and dashi.
Park City, Utah: Snack on bites from Jean-Georges’ J&G Grill at the St. Regis before heading down to the hotel’s The Library for a weekly Bloody Mary clinic, where guests learn how to make different variations of the classic cocktail. The hotel’s New York location is credited with originating the drink.
