Fever-Tree's new ginger beer adds a wallop of flavor to drinks
Now that bucks, mules and the ever-popular Dark and Stormy have become cocktail menu fixtures, the demand for ginger beer has bubbled up.
Yet too many of the brews currently on the market are cloyingly sweet, with barely a hint of ginger's trademark bite. But a new ginger beer, from the London-based cult mixer company Fever-Tree, is poised to solve that problem.
Made with both Nigerian ginger and green ginger from the Ivory Coast, Fever-Tree's beer is brewed for 48 hours before any botanicals are added. The result is a beverage with delightful zip, thanks to the Nigerian ginger, and bright, citrusy notes, courtesy of the green ginger.
Seattle-based mixologist Ryan Magarian thinks Fever-Tree's sweetness level is spot-on, and says it's "the closest thing I've tasted to homemade ginger beer."
Brooke Arthur of San Francisco's Range champions Fever-Tree's authentic kick, which inspired her to create the John Daly--a tall, complex drink named after an equally tall, complex pro golfer (click here to download the recipe).
Fever-Tree ginger beer is available at many grocery stores and online at BevMo.com ($5 for a four-pack).
