Street Cred

Food truck stars head back into the restaurant

Call it a reverse culinary migration: Across the country, food-truck chefs are curbing their nomadic lifestyles and bringing their street sense back into the restaurant. Here's where to find your favorite outdoor food indoors:

New Orleans Nathanial Zimet--whose purple Que Crawl truck feeds French Quarter revelers ribs and grits fries--now serves his quirky Southern fare at Boucherie; try the boudin balls with garlic aioli and grouper with watermelon crawfish beurre. 8115 Jeannette St., New Orleans; 504-862-5514 or boucherie-nola.com

San Francisco After hitting a home run with gourmet flatbread sandwiches (like pork belly and jicama with cilantro aioli, pictured) at the Mission Street Food truck, chef Anthony Myint and his wife, Karen Leibowitz, moved their mobile eating operations indoors to Chinese restaurant Lung Shan. On Thursday and Saturday evenings, they enlist guest chefs to cook eclectic dinners, with proceeds going to charity. 2234 Mission St., San Francisco; 415-863-5710 or missionstreetfood.com

New York This spring, the brothers behind popular Manhattan cart Calexico Carne Asada are bringing their overstuffed, Cali-style burritos and tacos to a sit-down restaurant in Brooklyn's Red Hook neighborhood. Expect Mexican-American BBQ mash-ups like chipotle pulled pork with Calexico's spicy, secret "crack sauce." 122 Union St., Brooklyn; calexicocart.com

Los Angeles Instead of staying local, Curtis Brown of Brooklyn's Endless Summer taco truck is leaping cross-country--and switching cuisines: He and record exec Tony Presedo have just opened the brisket-slinging Territory BBQ and Records in Los Angeles. There's no word yet on a return policy for sauce-slathered vinyl. 534 N. Hoover St., Los Angeles; 323-662-4100 or territorybbq.com
