Turkey Day Sommelier
Wines for pumpkin pie and beyond, from Tasting Table and The Noble Grape
A festive meal calls for an equally celebratory progression of wines. We've made your Thanksgiving pairings easy by teaming up with The Noble Grape to put together a three-pack tailored to Turkey Day, from the pre-meal gathering to the fowl and on through dessert.
And in the spirit of the day, they've shaved 10 percent off the price--and agreed to keep the deal going beyond Thanksgiving, on into holiday party season (through 12/17).
Here's what will complement your cornucopia:
For the Toast: Domaine Saint-Vincent NV Brut This crisp, lively, fruit-forward Méthode Champenoise sparkling wine is the second label of New Mexico's Gruet Winery. It's ideal for toasting the occasion, and for a salad with apples, citrus or nuts. It even makes nice with turkey and cranberry sauce.
For the Turkey: 2007 Corvidae the Keeper Cabernet Franc Corvidae, an offshoot of cult Washington State winery Owen Roe, is known for big-flavored wines. The Keeper is full-bodied, smooth and versatile, with spice and dark fruit to complement sweet, tart, spiced and savory side dishes.
For the Finale: 2005 Familia Zuccardi Malamado Malbec Port Two unusual details set this Port apart: It's from Argentina, and it's made with late-harvest Malbec grapes. Fruity, dark and rich, it begs for a slice of pumpkin or pecan pie, roast apples or anything chocolate-based.
The Tasting Table Thanksgiving Three-Pack is $46.80 (before tax) at The Noble Grape, 802 N. Bishop St. (at Chicago Ave); 312-846-1204 or noblegrape.net
