Winestyr offers daily deals of the drinkable variety
"Another week, another daily deal site," you might think.
But save the eye rolls, because Winestyr is nothing like the worst of that genre.
The brainchild of a Chicago-based trio, the new site, which launches today, is a boon for bargain-hunting oenophiles.
Each weekday, Winestyr features a different domestic producer, offering discounted credit to that winery's online store. Instead of offering a deal on a specific wine, the aim, says Winestyr's John Wilson, is to tell the story of the winery, the history, the winemaker--and encourage people to taste for themselves.
Deals will be offered for 24 hours, and most store credit will be good for 90 days. The company has lined up wineries in California, the Pacific Northwest, the Finger Lakes, Virginia, Michigan and Florida. Some are small, producing 500 to 1,000 cases per year; others are large. Each is deemed fantastic and underexposed by the company's founders.
Today's debut deal is Greg Linn Wines, a Santa Barbara-based producer of site-specific, high-end wines ($50 to $100 for 750 ml). Upcoming features include a family-run Willamette winery with a focus on sustainability, a Napa producer of small-lot Cabernet Sauvignon, and a Southern California mainstay.
