Local Plunder
Craft a sustainable feast from the City Provisions deli
We hereby declare the City Provisions deli the best thing to happen to local food since the Green City Market moved outdoors earlier this year.
And while its shelves, cases and wine racks are filled with exciting pantry fodder--primarily of Midwestern provenance--the new Ravenswood storefront is also overflowing with options for an eat-in meal or a grab-and-go dinner.
Order a sandwich from house-made deli meats--pastrami, corned beef or roast beef made from Dietzler Farms meat, or smoked Michigan turkey ($9.50)--or try a TLT ($9) on Nicole's Bakery brioche, with smoked Rushing Waters trout standing in for bacon. Bright yellow local egg salad is perked up with sriracha sauce and served on a brioche roll ($8). Each sandwich comes with a pickle, made from Heritage Prairie cucumbers, on the side.
To drink: Rare Tea Cellar teas and Dark Matter coffee, both served iced or hot. Or grab a bottle (or six-pack) of local beer from Metropolitan, Two Brothers or Three Floyds.
Sweet monkey bread and gooey butter cake ($3 each) are prime for dessert picking--though a half-pint of Nice Cream's vanilla ice cream with Michigan peaches makes for a perfect taste of the fleeing season.
