Gin Palace goes all in with gin
Hook us up to the Gin Palace's flowing supply of gin and tonics on tap ($7) for the duration of the summer and call us happy.
Peppy with Bittermens Grapefruit Bitters, Bittermens Commonwealth Tonic Cordial and Gordon's Gin, the drink is very bitter, very dry and very good.
So good that this new East Village bar is already going through 50 liters of the kegged stuff a night.
Although Gin Palace’s leather couches and caged candles are a little too Fifty Shades of Grey for us, the prices are just right: All drinks are less than 10 bucks.
To eat--a basket of pea, potato and lentil samosas, which come in a finger-burningly hot puff-pastry shell ($10). Owner Ravi DeRossi didn’t have to go far for the recipe; his mother e-mailed it to him.
And starting late next week, Gin Palace will offer the world’s most labor-intensive gin cocktail, the Ramos Gin Fizz, on tap ($10). It’s made without the usual egg and cream, so the bar is using lactart as a nondairy emulsifier, but it’s still got the lime and lemon juices and orange-blossom water.
