Ingredients
  • 1 grapefruit wedge
  • 1 tablespoon sal de gusano (worm salt)
  • 2 ounces Mezcal Amarás Espadín
  • 4 ounces fresh ruby red grapefruit juice
  • 1 ounce fresh lime juice
  • ½ ounce Cointreau liqueur
  • ¼ teaspoon crushed dried Mexican chipotle peppers
  • ¼ jalapeño pepper, sliced thinly, divided in half
  • Ice cubes
Directions
  1. Rim a glass with a grapefruit wedge.
  2. Dip the glass into sal de gusano to coat the rim. Set aside.
  3. In a cocktail shaker, combine the Mezcal, grapefruit juice, lime juice, Cointreau, crushed dried Mexican peppers, and half of the jalapeño slices.
  4. Fill the shaker halfway with ice.
  5. Shake well for about 15–20 seconds.
  6. Strain into the prepared glass over fresh ice.
  7. Garnish with a grapefruit wedge and the remaining jalapeño slices. Serve immediately.
